Description: This live interactive session allows students to learn about the unique features of the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts. Sessions are modified to be age appropriate. Concepts related to architecture and acoustics are addressed. Students will also learn about the features in the Center which reflect its connection to the Texas Panhandle culture.
Objectives: Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate that vibrations create sounds (3-5), recognize that sound must have a medium for transmission (3-5), identify that some media transmit sound better than others (3-5) and describe how the ear works (3-5). Students will also demonstrate that sounds can be changed by adding energy, reflecting or absorbing sound and recognize that architects design buildings for specific uses (K-5). Students will also have the opportunity to list the 3 types of events that occur in the Globe-News Center, identify and describe how the building can 'transform' to give the best sound (K-5) and identify and describe the unique acoustic characteristics of the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts (3-5).
