Description:
This is a story of courage, loyalty and a boy's coming-of-age
and has been celebrated around the world for more
than 50 years. Set in the late 1860's, fourteen-year-old
Travis is left with his mother and younger brother
to care for the family ranch in Texas. Old Yeller,
a mangy one-eared mutt shows up and helps save the
family earning Travis' love and respect. The bond
that comes from their many adventures together changes
his life forever, especially when Old Yeller gets
sick and Travis must face the most difficult decision
of his young life.
Objectives:Students will have the opportunity to: Experience
a professional theatrical performance adapted by Brian
Guehrin from the American Classic by Fred Gibson.
Students will also have an opportunity to enjoy pre
and/or post activities relating to this production
for an enriched experience of the story, and reconnect
with the simple goodness in us that is fueled by caring
for all living things and explore 'Behind the Scenes'
spotlight on playwriting, drama, art, puppetry and
writing from lesson plans sent to all school districts
of Region 16 prior to the production at the Center.
